Game Table Makeover

Another week, a new project! A friend was selling this beautiful dining room table for cheap and I just knew it had more life left in it - so I snagged it Friday night and spent the weekend (between girls' sports) refinishing it! It will be a great game table for our basement for the years to come!

This is it before we picked it up!

I started out by sanding it down - which took a very
long time and my arms were so sore!

But the wood was gorgeous beneath!

Was racing fast to get it done in two days as a
blizzard was coming and I wanted to get it inside!
The middle leaf can come out to make a circular game/poker table!

Lots of steps!

I put a wax finish on it so it can be used with food and drink -

Finished before the snow storm! Now just need to get it downstairs!

Our Weekend in Pictures . . .

Chicken Pot Pies (did I mention January
is all about comfort food at our house?)

Breaking in the bar in the basement with the after-school ICE drinks!
Kate + Ruby

And Molly and friends inaugurated in the refreshed basement with a sleep over!

Kate helped me cut up a chocolate bar so our muffins would have chocolate in them!

We love sweet potato muffins!

Bear likes to lay on my arm when I'm done with
my yoga - so I stay on the floor with him.

Molly had a great game! This point guard scored 4 points,
had 9 rebounds and several turn-overs!

Kate is getting more aggressive on the
court as well and it's so fun to watch!

Bear likes when our PB container is empty as we let him lick it out. The only "People food" we let him have and he savors it and gets so excited when he sees us taking the label off and runs to his bed to wait patiently for us.

Kate played with the neighbor kids!

And our Chiefs lost in the AFC Championship game, but we still love them! There's always next year! What a fun season it was to watch them come from behind again this year!

Sports + Activities Lately . . .

Molly has been in Young Professionals of Stage Right Academy since the fall and is really loving it!
They meet every Saturday morning and she is learning so much!

Then off to her basketball games!

Love watching both girls play ball!

Kate took these pix last weekend on my phone, hence why I have so many!

We've all 4 been SO INTO the Chiefs games!
Love watching them every year in the playoffs!

Kate dressed like "KC the Rapper",
a character she made up for the game last weekend

Tough face.

Sweet face.

Bear is such a trooper with all the things the girls put on him!

The Chiefs have been winning in some EXCITING last seconds of the game - and everyone in KC is going nuts! Lots of fireworks around town on Sundays!

2022 Basement Refresh

We lived with our dark red basement walls for 7 years and with the start of the new year, we, meaning I, was ready to finally paint it! I had been dreading it for  years as I knew it would take several coats to cover the red, plus all the exterior walls are textured and there is a lot of wood beams involved (taping, etc). Luckily the girls helped out with the prep which was a HUGE help!

The red paint just made the basement feel so dark and
made the ceiling even feel lower than it was.

Almost done taping!

Helping me prime!

Bear was always RIGHT next to me so he often got paint on his black fur! :)

Took me 10 days total - 1 day of prep, 1 layer of primer and 4 coats of paint!!
I barely could feel my arms each night - they were so sore!

After primer . . .

Listened to lots of podcasts while I painted . . .

Loving how the warm Dove White is looking on these exterior plaster walls!

Already looks brighter!

And more spacious - happier!

The black bar/kitchen area really pops now!

I can see the light!

The stairwell was TRICKY . . .

But love how it looks!

Some Before + Afters, as who doesn't love a good remodel!

We are looking forward to getting some furniture down here soon and making it
cozy for the girls and their friends to hang out in their teen-age years!

Come on over! Pull up a bar stool!
