Planting a Garden

In my first house, that I bought when I was 28, I planted two huge gardens. It was actually more of a cottage - a little bungalow on the corner of Sycamore & Birch. I LOVED that cute little house. Anyway, my Dad came to visit one weekend and helped me dig up two large spots in my backyard. One for vegetables and one for zinnias and sunflowers!

When Mike and I got married 5 years later, I moved in to his house and there was shade all around - no real spot for a vegetable garden.

Our current home finally - has the perfect spot - but it is on cement where the previous owners had a hot tub. Not to let that stop us - we put together a rather large container garden on stilts to keep the rabbits away. I'm SO excited for this and hope it will grow bigger every year . . .

The girls helped me plant it today and it was SO exciting teaching them about little seeds and how much they will grow with a little tender loving care, sunlight and water.

More Spring Adventures!

Days 36-42 of Quarantine

Another week of Social Distancing and school at home.
I do love the slower pace. I do love time to cook dinner at night as we are not rushing between piano lessons, choir practices and sports schedules. I do love the time to just be.

We celebrated another birthday this week, spreading Air Hugs along the route!

We did lots of hiking and adventuring, as per usual . . .

Kate has set up her school station at our kitchen island and is great with crossing things off her list every day . . .

This is where Kate keeps all her binders/folders and work to do. She has a few things on the computer too - but half of her work is still written which I love!

This was some of her Religion Class work this week . . .

Molly prefers the quiet of her room for her zoom calls and google classroom instruction. She has taken on full responsibility for all her projects and assignments and rarely needs our help with anything.

If it were my room, I would be sitting in this comfy chair - but glad she has space to relax when she needs to . . .

The girls have both been playing a LOT of legos together the past couple of weeks, building the most intricate houses, concert stages and horse ranches for ALL the animals. Love how creative they get with them building from their imagination . . .

We celebrated Earth Day by baking cookies for our friends and neighbors!

We have been checking on this birds' nest over our front door daily - no eggs laid yet.

Molly has been drawing a lot lately in her art class and just for extra fun . . . this one is my favorite - called SISTERS.

Love this fun sketch too . . .

I have been painting a bit, some furniture that needed some touch ups . . .

Kate's nightstand . . .

The girls offered us "M+K Restaurant" again Saturday morning . . .

All the sugar . . .

Turquoise pancakes, scrambled eggs and chocolate milk  . . .

Kate is outside and NOT wearing cowboy boots so I had to capture it.

Love these slow paced days . . .

Back on!

Jump around! Hope you are all healthy and well as I write this! We pray for our family and friends daily and that we can all HUG in person soon!

Days 29-35 of Quarantine

I'm not going to lie, this was the toughest week yet. The newness has worn off, school at home is getting a bit old, and way too many zoom calls between school, church, Mom's work, piano lessons, dance classes.  And we really miss our friends. We are still trying to make the most of it and having lots of quality family time and enjoying games and puzzles and time together.

Our friend Ruby's 7th birthday was this week and we celebrated with lots of first grade families and neighborhood friends with a car parade!

Kate was living her best life, with her new microphone, giving shout outs to all her friends along the car parade route!

We wanted to jump out of the windows just to HUG our friends we haven't seen in over a month!

One this is all over, I'm hugging everybody. Get ready for long, awkward hugs!!!

We are still blessed with beautiful Spring weather as usual for Kansas City, March-May!
It is GORGEOUS! Warm days and cool nights -we are still spending a ton of time outside.

My food friend, Julie, published her first book! I was one of the lucky ones to read the script ahead of time and it is a FABULOUS book on hope and faith and community!! I hope everyone has a chance to read it right now!

We played M.A.S.H. - just like I did when I was a little girl . . .

We made S'mores for dessert.

Our flowering shrubs are flowering around Mary just in time for May Day!

Kate is an awesome dish washer/helper.

My view out the kitchen window often these days . . .

We played Hide + Seek after dinner one night . . .

Guess where I hid?

I was never found!!! I almost took a nap.

Made up lots of obstacle courses . . .

Molly's beautiful art on Divine Mercy Sunday.
Hope all of you are keeping the faith and staying positive right now, making the most of this scary time. Stay healthy!
